Honoring our Heroes

Written by emallers on May 30th, 2014

I had the opportunity to join members of the Greenwood VFW Post 5864 and the Cub Scout Pack 120 in addition to other distinguished guests at the VFW Memorial Day event on Monday. It was a privilege to join these patriots to honor the memory of veterans who have sacrificed their lives in the defense of our country and our way of life.

Throughout history, the United States has withstood the threats of tyranny and despotism thanks to the courage of our service members. Defending America is not just about protecting the homeland; it is about preserving our blessed heritage and our commitment to freedom.

Seeing the Cub Scouts participate in the Memorial Day ceremony was evidence that the scouting program promotes the values of patriotism and love of county, and instills those values in generations of young men. It was encouraging to see young people who care about their nation’s past and their nation’s future, because one day these youth will be the leaders of our country.

God Bless America!
