Start Dialing 10 Digits

Written by emallers on October 7th, 2016
Dear Friend,

As you may have heard, the 317 area code is running out of numbers.

Starting Oct. 15, all local phone calls in the 317 area code willrequire 10-digit dialing.

For example, if you would normally dial 555-5555, beginningOct. 15, it will have to be dialed 317-555-5555. If you don’t, the call won’t be completed and a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again.

For more details about which areas will be affected, clickhere.

Beginning mid-November, numbers assigned for new telephone lines or services in the 317 region may include the new 463 area code. It’s important to know that all current local calls will remain local; the area codes do not change local calling areas or rates.

It will also be helpful to add 317 to any pre-programmed local numbers in your cell phone that don’t already have 10 digits.

If you have any questions throughout this process, please call the Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor at 317-232-2494 or click here.

Sincerely,

State Rep. Woody Burton
