Never Forget

Friday, September 9th, 2016
Dear Friend,

Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives.

Among those who died were brave first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice helping fellow Americans. Let’s remember the role they played on Sept. 11, 2001, and continue honoring those who dedicate themselves to protecting us.

As a way to pay tribute to all the victims of the attacks, consider donating blood duringNational Blood Donation Week. Click here to learn how to save a life.

Please take a moment to reflect on what was lost that September morning 15 years ago.

We will never forget the courage shown on 9/11 and how our country stood up against the face of evil.

May God continue to bless America,

State Rep. Woody Burton

Back to School

Friday, August 12th, 2016
Dear Friend,

With the start of the new school year, please be mindful of students entering and exiting school buses.

[Click here to tweet a safety message to other Hoosier drivers]

Remember, state law requires motorists to stop when a school bus is picking up or dropping off children. Watch for school buses with their stop arms extended and red lights flashing, which means drivers from all directions must stop.

This law applies to all roadways,
unless it’s divided by a physical

barrier.
Look out for increased pedestrian traffic and posted speed limits in school zones. If you have a child who rides the bus, click here for tips to help keep them safe.

Best wishes to our students, parents and educators for another safe and fun school year!

Sincerely,

State Rep. Woody Burton

Promising Future

Friday, July 29th, 2016

Dear Friend,

Indiana is on strong financial footing. As we closed out the fiscal year, our state’s reserve funds totaled $2.24 billion – the highest in our state’s history. More than $400 million in reserves will be used to help maintain our roads and bridges.

Our state is one of only a few states with a AAA credit rating, the highest possible, which saves taxpayers millions and signals stability to employers looking to expand or locate here.

At a time when many states, including Illinois, face budget shortfalls and higher taxes, we cut taxes for Hoosiers and job creators while making record investments in education and transportation infrastructure. Our fiscal discipline has paid dividends for Indiana and sets a strong foundation for legislators as we develop a comprehensive and sustainable long-term road funding solution next session.

Hardworking Hoosiers, job creators and Republican leadership have set our state up for a promising future!

Sincerely,

Memorializing Fallen Heroes

Friday, May 27th, 2016
With Memorial Day approaching, we have the opportunity to reflect on those who sacrificed everything to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. While communities throughout the state will be celebrating Memorial Day in their own ways, it is important that we remember the true meaning of the holiday: to honor our service members who gave their last full measure of devotion to our nation.Unfortunately, there are instances where Hoosier veterans pass away without living family members to make proper burial arrangements. To ensure these heroes receive a burial recognizing their commitment to our country, the General Assembly recently enacted a new law tasking the Indiana Department of Veterans’ Affairs to work with veteran service organizations to establish a set of standards for the unclaimed remains of deceased veterans.

The General Assembly also passed a law doubling the amount of money dedicated to funeral expenses for Indiana National Guard members who pass away in the line of duty.

There will never be enough that we can do to repay our veterans, but we are committed to continuing to find ways to show our appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifice to their country and all of us.

As you and your family enjoy the holiday, please remember to honor those who died protecting our freedoms.

Sincerely,

State Rep. Woody Burton
