Veterans Day is a special day in our nation. November 11th marks the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Presently, we honor our courageous servicemen and servicewomen who have given their time, and in some cases their lives, for our great country. It’s important to show our Hoosier support to those who have served to protect our freedom.
There are many ways to show respect and thanks to our veterans. Here are a few ideas:

- AMillionThanks.org – Write a card, email, letter or prayer of appreciation for our military and they will receive it around a holiday.
- Operation Gratitude – Your $15 donation pays for the assembly and shipping of a 50+ item care package to be sent to a service person. If you know of someone who has served, you can place them on a list to request that a care package and letters of thanks be sent to them as well.
- Battalion Buddies – By donating a cuddly stuffed animal to this program, a child of a deployed parent will receive the toy, along with a note of encouragement to comfort them in their parent’s absence.
In the past year, the General Assembly has showed additional support for Hoosier veterans by passing legislation that will help military personnel returning from combat. These men and women will now have a three year window to apply for aid from the Military Family Relief Fund, which will help veterans adjust back to civilian life. Additionally, state educational institutions are now required to award post secondary credit to members of the military enrolled in a state educational institution who successfully complete courses that are part of the individual’s military service.
